Welcome to Blog Number Three!! Throughout this blog we share our experiences in Prince Edward Island, home of the Silver Fox and Red Sands. Enjoy!

Leaving New Brunswick, we continued along the Trans Canada Highway towards Prince Edward Island. Little did we know, that a ferry was not the only means of getting onto the island. As we approach the exit for Prince Edward Island, we quickly find ourselves in traffic leading towards the biggest bridge we had ever actually seen. To our surprise, we were about to drive over this massive bridge, which ended up taking a total of 10 minutes to cross. We quickly learned that this "massive bridge" was the world famous confederation bridge. Although pictures could never do justice to the size of this bridge, we have shared one of our photos just below to the left.

The Confederation Bridge follows along the Acadian Coastal Route, overlooking a beautiful body of water. It costs $47.00 to cross!! However, they have a system worked out where you only pay leaving the island, weather you chose to take the bridge back across or a ferry crossing over into Nova Scotia (which is what we did). Immediately after crossing onto Price Edward Island, the ongoing potato fields and Cavendish Farms had commenced. I'm not even kidding when I say that there were potato fields everywhere you looked!

PEI National Park

Of course, knowing Jesse and I, our first stop was to the Prince Edward Island National Park, which just so happened to be free of charge this year due to construction. The set up of this national park is quite different than most we've been too. This one is set up as a road along the coast with stop offs and lookouts. Some even have opportunities for you to go down and explore the beaches. It really is a magical place, it's beyond beautiful. While exploring the red sands, we came across a Blue Heron. Although rather common, we considered it a cool find. We spent the remainder of the evening walking the beaches, and the sunset. Something to keep in mind. During off season, there is really not a lot of business' or accommodations open yet, this includes campgrounds. Which meant for Jesse and I, we really needed to search for just about anywhere to let us stay for the night because there also were no truck stops or rest stops for the truck to be parked at. About 10 minutes before closing, we were able to come across these really cute cabins. Although completely out of budget we splurged and took the cabin for the night. So just something to keep in mind, if ever staying in P.E.I during off season. Reminding you as well, this would have been the end of May.

Anne of Green Gables Heritage Site

Located just 5 minutes down the road from our cabin, was the heritage site for Anne of Green Gables. So we made the drive, and went to see what it had to offer. As a kid I remember reading Anne of Green Gables, so this was a place of interest for me. The Heritage Site had the house of L.M Montgomery's (the author) aunt and uncle. The house was open to the public for touring, and was preserved in great condition. The house was a significant source of inspiration for many of L.M Montgomery's stories. Her aunts house had the green gables, which was neat to see in real life. In addition to the house, was an old barn with several old artifacts from the Montgomery household. The part which we found most interesting were these 2 trails called "Lover's Lane", and "The Haunted Woods". These trails were said to be of L.M Montgomery's favorite, where she would often go to look for inspiration for her stories. Many of L.M Montgomery's famous quotes were spread throughout the trails. For anybody interested in history, even if your not familiar with Anne of green Gables we definitely recommend checking this site out!

Teacup Rock

A Hidden Gem! We were recommended to check this place out, and were so glad we were! We would have never found this place on our own! It's so amazing! Located at Thunder Cove Beach. A nice walk down along the red sand beach, to a cluster of neat rock formations, with one rock formation in particular in the shape of a teacup. An afternoon well spent.

Prince Edward Island Preserving Company

If you like Jam, making this stop is an absolute MUST. This company offers a great variety of jam samples, and jellies! Makes for a great road stop lunch ;) The samples were so delicious, that we ended up having to buy a couple jars for ourselves!

This was our last stop in PEI, we were only here for a short amount of time, but we had such a great time, and would absolutely come back! On our way leaving the island, we spotted the famous Silver Fox! A mama, and her baby crossed the road right in front of us!! What a way to end our trip in P.E.I!!

Thanks for stopping in! We appreciate your support, and hope you enjoyed reading as much as we enjoyed writing! Stay tuned for the next blog post :)

Stay Wild,

Jesse & Jessica.
